Cowdray Ruins

South Downs Way
Stretching for 100 miles, the length of England's newest National Park, the South Downs Way runs between Winchester, first capital of England, and the white chalk cliffs of Eastbourne, encompassing some of England's finest countryside.

Weald & Downland Open Air Museum
Set in 50 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside, this is a very special place to wander amongst a fascinating collection of nearly 50 historic buildings dating from the 13th to the 19th century, many with period gardens, together with farm animals, woodland walks and a picturesque lake.

Chichester and Chichester Harbour
The four main streets of Chichester stretch out like a compass following the Roman and medieval plan. Within the old city walls there are fine parks, gardens, restaurants and shops - and of course Chichester's magnificent 900 year old cathedral.

For those prepared to travel a little further to the west, Chichester Harbour, with an entrance from the EnglishChannel between Selsey and Hayling Island, comprises an area of some twenty-seven square miles of navigable water and provides some of the most rewarding scenery in the south of England.

West Dean Gardens
Whether garden fanatic or casual visitor, staying an hour or a day, at any season, there is always something to enjoy at West Dean Gardens. Since 1622, the house and gardens at West Dean have evolved in harmony, creating a place of beauty and tranquillity in the rolling South Downs.

Cowdray Ruins
Set in the stunning grounds of Cowdray Park, Midhurst, this is one of Southern England's most important early Tudor courtier's palaces. Built from 1520 and partly destroyed by fire in 1793, royal visitors included Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Explore the Tudor kitchens, splendid gatehouse, visitor centre and shop.

Goodwood Races
Set on top of the Sussex Downs, Goodwood provides a breathtaking backdrop for some of the very finest flat racing. There are few moments in sport to equal the thrill of a top class field making that final sprint to the winning post. Goodwood is world-class horse racing at its most relaxed and chic.

Goodwood Motor Sport
Goodwood Motor Circuit, restored in 1998, it is the only classic circuit in the world to remain entirely in its original form. The highlight for many is the annual Goodwood Revival weekend held in September.
The Festival of Speed can justifiably claim to be the world's biggest and most diverse celebration of the history of motor sport and car culture, where the greatest competition cars and star drivers from all eras in action can be seen.

Petworth House
A magnificent late 17th-century mansion set in a beautiful park, landscaped by ‘Capability' Brown and immortalised in Turner's paintings. The house contains the Trust's finest and largest collection of pictures, with numerous works by Turner, Van Dyck, Reynolds and Blake, as well as ancient and neo-classical sculpture, fine furniture and carvings by Grinling Gibbons.
